"MODIFIED DISPENSATIONALISM" DENIED
A Response to Brian Schwertley
by Greg Loren Durand

Greg Loren Durand has written a book against Theonomy. And the book is not just against Theonomy. I can understand people writing a book against the abuses of Theonomy, but he basically rejects the Reformed faith for a modified form of Dispensationalism. The book is totally unconfessional. The idea that the whole law of God has been done away.... He teaches that the whole moral law of God — the whole law of God that was given to Moses has been done away, even the Ten Commandments. — Brian Schwertley

God codified [republished] the Covenant of Works specifically for the Israelites in the Mosaic law, and as an Israelite, Christ fulfilled that law to the letter. In a broader sense, He therefore also fulfilled the Covenant of Works in behalf of the Gentile elect. The specific Mosaic code for Israelites, and the general Covenant of Works for Gentiles, was therefore abrogated as far as the believer is concerned because Christ's active obedience is imputed to their account. In order to escape His judgment, God commands faith in Christ, not obedience to the Mosaic code/Covenant of Works.
Greg Loren Durand

The covenant from Mount Sinai was the covenant of works as being opposed to the covenant of grace, namely, the law of the ten commandments, with promise and sanction.... For believers are dead to the law as a covenant of works, Rom. vii.4, and therefore as a husband cannot pretend to command his wife after she is dead and the relation dissolved; so believers being dead to the law as a covenant, it cannot have any commanding authority over them. They are not under it, Rom. vi.14, how then can it have any commanding power over them? They are not under its jurisdiction, but under that of grace. — Thomas Boston
